What could be more fun than combining random objects found in a mall to create awesome zombie killing contraptions? It’s not trying to complete stupid timed missions, that’s for sure.
I played the original Dead Rising and at the time, I’m sure the game was amazing. I remember having fun playing it (not enough to rush out to buy the sequel, apparently) but this time around, it seems to have lost its appeal to me. I did not play the original sequel starring a different leading man but sometimes I wish I had. Frank West is just an ugly dude. I gave him blue hair and a serial killer mask but there’s no hiding his wonky body shape.
My biggest complaint comes with the combat. Did the original feel this clunky and delayed? I hate it. I hate fighting the zombies and resort to jump kicking most of the time. Maybe at higher levels and with better weapons it becomes more fun?
I made it to Case File 2-2 and I’ll never make it past this point unless I start a new game. I fucking hate that everything is timed. This may have always been a major aspect of the game but good lord, I’m just so sorry I can’t make it to the Uranus bathroom in time to kill the weird hippie guy. I’m soooo sorry. *eye roll*
Also, if you follow me on Twitter – @OneDizzyPenguin, you’ll know that I quickly gave up on escorting survivors. I think the only guy I saved was Sven and I’m pretty sure they make him more durable since he’s a key plot point who holds some Zombrex. The weird guy who wore a helmet all the time almost made it back. Almost. I was actually bummed to see him go down. I just didn’t give a shit about anyone else. They suck as companions and whoever decided that they are able to be hurt by the player should be shot. I had more survivors defect on me than zombies.
The free play mode is alright, but nothing I was overly excited about. I actually forgot about the camera aspect for a little while but I’ve always enjoyed games involving photography. Pokemon Snap and Fatal Frame immediately come to mind and I think I’d pick up either of those before I pick up Dead Rising 2 again.
Anyone love the game want to give me your reasons why? Maybe I’m missing some vital tips & tricks that would make my game easier!
